Absorbable
Breaks down in the body over time. For internal tissue, ligation, anything you will not remove. Holds strength through the critical healing window, then absorbs cleanly.
Non-absorbable
Stays until removed — skin closure, tendons, anywhere lasting support matters. Reach for a nylon or polypropylene monofilament instead.
Monofilament vs braided
Monofilament glides through tissue with less drag and lower infection risk. Braided handles and knots more easily.
Reading the label
