Over the Patient Instrument Tables

Over-the-patient tables are important in surgical settings because it prevents practitioners from stooping to retrieve tools. These tables are mobile, gliding easily in and out of range. They let you work closely with your patient, while still in close contact with equipment.

Surgical Lighting

Surgical lighting is essential to enhance visibility in your clinic or operating room. Surgical lighting is used for more than just surgical procedures. Some doctors choose to use these lights in delivery rooms, and even general medicine clinics.

Hand Instruments

Hand instruments are any tools a doctor might carry by hand, including:

  • Micro scissors
  • Needle holders
  • Curved scissors
  • Round handle scalpel blade holder
  • Needle drivers

ProNorth Medical supplies many hand instruments and instrument cassettes to store them in.

Medical Sutures

Sutures are an important part of medicine, allowing doctors to close wounds, incisions, and surgical sites safely. Sutures come in two main types, absorbable and nonabsorbable. Absorbable stitches, as the name suggests, don’t require a second appointment for removal. Instead, leftover stitches are absorbed into the skin.

Absorbable Sutures

Absorbable sutures are best suited for deep tissue or quick healing tissue in the body. Absorbable sutures are generally clear and hard to see after healing. Common absorbable materials used in stitches include:

  • Polydioxanone: Abdominal wounds and other soft tissue closures require a gentle touch. Polydioxanone is a synthetic monofilament suture used for just this.
  • Gut: Another monofilament suture, gut sutures are used in obstetrics and soft tissue procedures. They are often made of natural fibres.
  • Poliglecaprone: Poliglecaprone sutures are synthetic monofilament sutures used in ligation or soft tissues.
  • Polyglactin: Another synthetic suture, polyglactin is braided and better for tissue on hands and face than soft tissues.

Nonabsorbable Sutures

Sutures of the nonabsorbable variety are removed, rather than dissolved. Sometimes these stitches are left in permanently. Nonabsorbable materials for sutures are dyed blue or black and includes materials such as:

  • Polypropylene: Polypropylene is a synthetic monofilament suture used in general wound closure, orthopedics, plastic surgery and cardiovascular surgery.
  • Polyester: A braided synthetic suture, polyester sutures are used in removable or permanent stitches. This material is best suited to surgeries in cardiovascular health.
  • Nylon: Nylon is a common nonabsorbable suture in general wound closure. It is a monofilament and natural material, favoured for its low risk of infections.
  • Silk: Silk is a braided natural suture material used in soft tissue, gynecology, oral surgery, and obstetrics.

ProNorth Medical offers a wide range of sutures and can walk you through the best materials to order for specific injuries and treatment.

  • Gargoyle
  • Dickies
  • Rayban
  • Rose
  • Oakley
