Vilet Plus™ is an anti-bacterial coated synthetic absorbable suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide (PGLA). It is coated with calcium stearate, 30:70 poly(glycolide-co-L-lactide), and chlorhexidine diacetate.

Indications 
PGLA Plus suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, but not for use in ophthalmic, cardiovascular or neurological tissues. Vilet Plus antimicrobial suture is intended to reduce or inhibit the microbial colonization of Staphylococcus. aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis on the suture strand. 

Actions 
90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide (PGLA) suture may elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissues, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. Loss of tensile strength is progressive absorption of PGLA sutures occurs by means of hydrolysis. 

Tensile Strength 
Vilet Plus™ (PGLA) suture approximately retains 75% of the original tensile strength at 2 weeks and 50% at 3 weeks during subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats. 

Absorption 
Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass. Complete absorption of Vilet Plus™ sutures is essentially complete between 90 and 100 days. 

Sterilization 
Ethylene oxide. 

Packaging 
Vilet Plus™ (PGLA) suture is supplied sterile in precut lengths attached to various needle types in one-dozen boxes, also available precut non-needled.
